Which type of frame should you choose for your art photographs?
Which type of frame should you choose for your art photographs?
Are you planning a museum or gallery exhibition aimed at collectors, and want to provide the perfect setting for your photographic works? The choice of framing is essential and can become an integral part of the work itself. Whilst a print can be sold on its own, without a frame or mounting, it can also be offered with a frame, and this choice can make all the difference.
To this end, we invite you to entrust the creation of your frame to our specialist workshop. Here is a brief overview of frames specially designed for the art market. The timber used for our frames comes from a supply chain that ensures the protection and sustainable management of forests, and all the materials used guarantee the optimal preservation of your works.
Cutting the wooden mouldings for the frames
➤ Art framing
The name says it all: high-end art framing allows for a bespoke solution to showcase and provide long-lasting protection for your photographic prints. Your print, whether silver gelatin or inkjet, is first mounted onto a 1 mm-thick aluminium plate. It is then set within a wooden frame, beneath a thick, bevelled, acid-free mat. The print is shielded from dust and protected by a glass panel of your choice (clear glass, anti-reflective glass or UV-protective and anti-reflective glass).
You can customise your frame from a wide range of profile dimensions (width and depth of the wooden mouldings), shapes (flat, rounded or baroque) and numerous colours.
Designing a shadow box
➤ The American-style frame
The timeless American-style frame is available in two options. The
standard format
offers 18 standard sizes and a single profile of 10/28 (10 mm wide, 28 mm deep), at a more affordable price. The
custom size option
, on the other hand, allows you to choose your own dimensions and aspect ratios, up to a maximum of 140 x 200 cm.
As with art framing, your print is mounted onto a 1 mm-thick aluminium plate, then placed in the centre of a wooden frame, leaving a visible gap of 1 cm between the edge of the print and the inner edge of the frame.
The absence of protective glass allows you to fully appreciate the texture of the paper, particularly with baryta, fine art and textured papers.
For custom sizes, you can personalise the frame by choosing from a range of colours (black, white, oak and wenge) and profile widths, from 5/35 to 8/40 mm.
Design, preparation and packaging of a Box
➤ The Box or the Floating Frame
Would you like to add a touch of originality to your artwork? Our workshop can offer you ‘La Boîte’ or the ‘Floating Frame’. In both cases, the print is first mounted onto an aluminium plate. For ‘The Box’, the image is positioned right up against the wooden frame moulding, then placed beneath the protective glass with a 1-centimetre gap. For the Floating Frame, the image is placed between the glass and the back of the frame, surrounded by a 6 cm gap all round: it thus appears to float, as if weightless within the frame. Here too, the protective glass is fitted with a 1-centimetre gap.
Customise every detail of these frames: profile dimensions, frame colour, quality of the protective glass and hanging system for the best possible result.
